OXFORD – John G. Saad, Jr., 77, of Dudley Road, died Friday, July 9, 2021, at Care One in Millbury, after a battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jeanne H. (deVillers) Saad; three children, Michael J. Saad of Oxford, Barbara J. Fields and her husband Ronald of Webster, and Thomas J. Saad and his wife Heather of Dudley; five grandchildren, Malissa I., Michael J. Jr. and his wife Leslie, Jonathan M., Gavin T., and Ronin W.; his sister, Barbara A. Bowes and her husband John; and his brother, Mark A. Saad and his wife Linda. He also leaves several aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces, including his close cousins Ronald Saad, Doreen Sacramone, and Joanna Boyd. He was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Saad. He was born in Webster on July 8, 1944, son of the late John G. and Stasia A. (Skowron) Saad.
He graduated from St. Peter’s Central Catholic High School in Worcester and the New England School of Accounting in Worcester. He served three years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.
John worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as the area director for the Department of Transitional Assistance in Southbridge, retiring in 2002 after 32 years. He was elected a selectman in Oxford in 1975 and served for 43 years. He was a big New England sports fan enjoying the Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren as well as spending time on his beloved Cape Cod.
John was a dedicated servant in his community and served on many boards and organizations. He was a reserve CD Police Officer, a Worcester County Reserve Deputy Sherriff, member of the American Legion Post 58, the V.F.W. Post 5663, and the Oxford Memorial Honor Guard. He was a member of St. Roch’s Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 4241 in Oxford. John served on the Oxford Democratic Town Committee and was a candidate for State Representative in 1980. He coached Oxford Youth Basketball, along with men’s and women’s softball leagues. He was co-founder and president of the Oxford Founder’s Day Celebration, as well as chairman of the 275th Anniversary Celebration of Oxford. John was the recipient of the Oxford V.F.W. Citizen of the Year Award in 1987, the Webster Elks Citizen of the Year Award in 1990, the Sherriff’s Community Service Award in 1990, and the 300th Anniversary Award for Outstanding Citizenship.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at St. Roch’s Church, 332 Main St., Oxford. Those attending are respectfully requested to meet directly at the church. Burial with military honors will follow at North Cemetery in Oxford. Calling hours are Wednesday, July 14, 2021, from 4-7 p.m. at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford.
