Joseph Consolie

WEBSTER – Joseph D. Consolie, 76, died Wednesday, July 27, 2022, in his home.  He is survived by two children, Tara Consolie of Thompson, CT, and Joseph Consolie of Three Rivers; and his niece, Kimberly Sutliffe of New York.  He was predeceased by a sister, MaryAnn Sutliffe; and a nephew, Mark Sutliffe.  He was born in Geneva, NY, son of the late Joseph J. and Josephine F. (DeYulio) Consolie, and lived in Geneva before moving to Webster in 1964 and spending the rest of his life in this area.

Mr. Consolie was a lifelong musician and entertainer.  He started entertaining by tap dancing when he was young.  His musical career began with the Ted Mack Show in New York, and later performed with the “Calvary Men” in Geneva, where he was signed by United Artist Records.  Their song “Battle Cry” made the Billboard Top 40.

After moving to Webster, he met and played with Paul Chaplin, and they became lifelong friends.  He started the “Canada Goose” band in the 1970’s in Webster.  In the 1980’s, he became the well-known local legend “Joe Consolie and Flashback.”  He was the house band at the Fuzzy Grape in Webster for many years, and played at the Rainbow Garden.  Joe was a D.J. for Nichol’s College radio WNRC 95.5 in the early 90’s and hosted the show as “Joe Joe the Tiger.”

Joe played with many musicians throughout his career, including Brian Hyland, Gene Pitney, Tiny Tim, Fred Parris and the Five Satins, the Dubs, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, and the Duprees, along with opening for the New Kids on the Block at the Centrum in Worcester.  He played back-up for many bands and specialized in Doo-Wop.  His style was inspired by Elvis.

His life was entertaining and music.  He was artistic, charming, and always looking to make people laugh.  He enjoyed going to the casino.  Joe loved his kids unconditionally and will be remembered for always giving the best life advice.  He will be remembered as a kind-hearted man who was loved by all who knew him.

Calling hours are Tuesday, August 2, 2022, from 4-7 p.m. at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford.  Family and friends will share remembrances on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the conclusion of calling hours.
