Raymond Casey

OXFORD – Raymond J. Casey, almost 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, after a long illness.  His eldest daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne (Casey) and Frank Cole, and goddaughter Linda (Casey) Primel, were by his side.  He was born on September 24, 1931, in Bennington, VT.  He is the son of the late Edmund and Ida (Gallant) Casey, who immigrated from New Brunswick, Canada.  He was proud of his French Canadian heritage.

His family moved to Oxford when he was a year old, and he remained a resident of Oxford throughout his life.  Ray graduated from Oxford High School in 1950 where he was active in sports.  He received a scholarship for baseball to Northeastern University in Boston, but when Uncle Sam called, he joined the Navy.  He proudly served aboard the U.S.S. Salem and was honorably discharged in 1955.

While in the Navy, Ray developed an interest in electronics.  He subsequently attended Worcester Junior College.  He worked for Raytheon in Waltham for five years and then Heald Machine in Worcester for 35 years prior to his retirement.  He was an electrical foreman.

Ray married the love of his life, Joyce (Hamilton) Casey on May 5, 1962.  They raised their three children together in Oxford.  Joyce passed away on November 10, 2005.  He was also predeceased by his brother, Laurence Casey and his wife Theresa of Oxford; his twin brother Richard Casey of Shrewsbury, and his sister-in-law, Lois Dion of Douglas.

Ray leaves behind his daughters, Suzanne Cole and her husband Frank of Leicester; Colleen Casey of Oxford, and Deana Casey of Dudley.  In addition, he leaves his sisters- and brothers-in-law, Theresa Casey of Shrewsbury, Myrtle and Roger Bacon of Oxford, Judy and Leo LaBonte of Oxford, Jack and Maryann Hamilton of Oxford, Norma and Arnie Parker of Webster, and Jane and Neil Faucher of Sebastian, FL, and John Menard of Douglas.  In addition, he leaves many dear nieces and nephews.

Ray was a member of St. Roch’s Church, the American Legion Post 58, and the V.F.W. Post 5663, all in Oxford.  He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4241 in Oxford, where he was a third-degree knight.  He enjoyed gardening, caring for his yard, fixing things around the house, and playing cards.  He supported the local sports teams, especially the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

The family would like to thank Jewish Home Health Care in Worcester, CareOne in Millbury, and Oxford Fire/EMS, for the compassionate care Ray received during his illness.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at St. Roch’s Church, 332 Main St., Oxford.  Burial with military honors will follow at North Cemetery in Oxford.  Calling hours are Saturday, September 3, 2022, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at Paradis-Givner Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oxford, prior to the Mass.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Life-Skills Inc., 44 Morris St., Webster, MA 01570.
